Seasonal Tire Changeover

If you run a dedicated winter tire set, the twice-a-year swap doesn't have to mean a shop appointment squeezed into an already busy week. We come to your home or office and change your tires over on-site — before the first freeze in the fall, and again once the weather turns in the spring.

What's included

• Removal of your current tire set and installation of your other set (winter-for-summer or summer-for-winter)
• Rebalancing as needed, since tires can shift slightly out of balance after months in storage
• Lug nut torque check to your vehicle manufacturer's spec
• Tire pressure check and adjustment to your vehicle's recommended PSI — pressure needs often change with the season, not just the tire set
• Visual tread depth and wear check on the set coming off, so you know how much life is left before next season

On-rims or off-rims

How the job goes depends on how your tires are set up:

On dedicated wheels (on-rims). If your winter tires are already mounted on their own set of wheels, the swap is a straightforward wheel-for-wheel change — no mounting or dismounting needed, just removal, installation, torque, and a balance check. This is the faster of the two options.

Same wheels, different tires (off-rims). If you run one set of wheels year-round and swap the tires themselves, each tire has to be dismounted from the wheel, the new set mounted, and the whole set balanced — closer to a full tire installation. Tell us which setup you have when you call or text so we bring the right equipment and give you an accurate time estimate.

The storage question

Whichever tires aren't on the car need to go somewhere for the season. If you have garage or basement space, storing them yourself is the simplest option — keep them upright or stacked in a cool, dry spot out of direct sunlight, ideally in bags to keep them clean. If you're tight on space, some full-service tire shops offer paid seasonal storage; that's worth asking about locally if a spare set is more than you want to keep at home. We don't currently offer storage ourselves — we handle the changeover, and you (or a shop with storage space) handle where the off-season set lives in between.

Timing matters

Michigan's first hard freeze typically arrives by late October or November, and winter tires perform meaningfully better than all-seasons once temperatures drop below about 45°F — well before roads are actually icy. Waiting until the first snow to book usually means a longer wait, since everyone has the same idea at once. Booking your changeover in early-to-mid October, before the seasonal rush, is the easiest way to avoid that. The same logic applies in reverse each spring: getting summer tires back on before temperatures climb protects the winter set from unnecessary wear on warm pavement.

Can you do this at my office instead of my home? Yes — many of our seasonal changeover calls happen at a workplace parking lot during the day, so the car doesn't have to sit at home waiting.

Do winter tires actually make a difference, or is it mostly marketing? Winter-specific rubber compounds stay flexible in cold temperatures in a way all-season tires don't, which meaningfully improves grip and stopping distance below about 45°F — separate from whether there's snow or ice on the road. It's a real performance difference, not just a seasonal habit.
